Daniel 17 / Chapter 12 / The End

This week we conclude the book of Daniel by seeing how the content of the 12th chapter correlates to passages in the New Testament, particularly the Resurrection.

Daniel 16 / Chapter 11 / The King Yet to Come

This week we conclude chapter 11 and the vision of the “king who will do as he pleases.” It become clear in the end of this chapter that what seems to be a continuation of the description of Antiochus IV Epiphanes is ultimately referring to someone else. In the last verses of this chapter, we get a glimpse of the pride, tryanny and military campaigns of the king of the last days who will stand opposed to God himself.

Daniel 15 / Chapter 11 / The Great War

This week we explore chapter 11 of Daniel which is the explanation of the vision of the Great War that Daniel had received earlier. The vision reveals the long warfare between the Ptolemaic dynasty in Egypt and the Seleucid dynasty of Syria as they fought for control of the Holy Land during the Intertestamental Period.

Daniel 14 / Chapter 10 / The Vision of the Glorious One

This week we take a look at Daniel 9 and his vision of the glorious one hovering above the Tigris River. With this vision comes the final message of the Book, a foretelling of a great war that will affect the future of the Jewish people.

Daniel 13 / Chapter 9 / The Prince who is coming

We conclude our discussion of Chapter 9 by seeing how the threads of the “coming prince” and the “abomination of desolation” are carried forward into the New Testament and developed into the teaching on the Man of Lawlessness, the Son of Destruction, the Beast - the Antichrist.

Daniel 11 / Chapter 8-9 / Daniel's Prayer

We finish our tour of chapter 8 with a discussion of the 2,300 days mentioned and proceed on to chapter 9. Daniel, now about 80 years old is studying the Sacred Writings and discovers that Jeremiah had been told that the time of Israel’s humiliation would only last for 70 years. Realizing that the time for redemption was at hand, Daniel intercedes for sinful Israel and calls on God to act for the sake of His holy name to return His people to the Land and reestablish Jerusalem.

Daniel 10 / Chapter 8 / The Ram and the Goat

In chapter 8, Daniel has the second of his visions. In the vision he sees and Ram and Goat and a
“little horn.” The visions of this chapter foretell what will happen to the Jewish people under the rule of the Greeks, specifically Antiochus IV Epiphanes - a prototype of the Antichrist of the End Times.

Daniel 09 / Chapter 7 - Part 2

This week we finish Daniel’s dream of the four beasts by hearing how the angel interprets the vision. Kingdoms may rise and fall, but the Kingdom ruled by the “one like a son of man” will endure forever.

Daniel 08 / Chapter 7 - Part 1

We begin chapter seven this week, the central chapter in Daniel. Daniel has a vision of four beasts that parallels Nebuchadnezzar’s dream in chapter 2. Once again we see the turning of world empires, but now we see the appearance of “one like a son of man” who will rule God’s eternal kingdom.

The story of Daniel in the Lion’s den is probably one of the most famous from the Hebrew Prophets. This week we explore this story and situate it in Daniel’s narrative seeing how it calls us to trust God when everything seems to be against us.

Daniel 06 / Chapter 5

This week we finish the story of Nebuchadnezzar’s humbling and turn to the humiliation of Belshazzar. As the grandson of Neb, Belshazzar should have learned from his grandfather’s life experience. Yet in his arrogance he defies the One True God of Heaven. The handwriting on the wall seals Belshazzar’s fate and the next Gentile nation comes to power, just as Daniel had foretold.

Daniel 05 / Chapter 4

This week we finish the story of the Hebrew men in the fiery furnace and begin the story of Nebuchadnezzar’s humbling - the final story in the first sequence of Daniel’s narrative.

Daniel 04 / Chapter 3

We review Daniel’s interpretation of Neb’s dream. In chapter three we begin the story of the Jewish men and the fiery furnace. Challenged to idolatry, the three Jewish men choose to worship God alone regardless of whether He intervenes. This chapter surfaces the deepest question in the Bible: “Will I worship the One True God alone regardless of what happens to me?”

Daniel 03 / Chapter 2

Chapter 2 of Daniel begins the Aramaic section of the book that focuses on God’s dealings with Nebuchadnezzar. Troubled by dreams the King seeks someone to reveal both his dream and its interpretation. By God’s grace, Daniel is able to intervene. God reveals to Nebuchadnezzar the kingdoms that will rise and fall until the final, Eternal Kingdom is established.

Daniel 02 / Chapter 1

Faced with the pressure to be assimilated into Babylonian culture, Daniel, Mishael, Hananiah, and Azariah distinguish themselves among the other young boys trained in Nebuchadnezzar’s court. God is faithful in granting both the grace and the wisdom necessary for these young boys to be the people that He desires for them to be.
