Revelation_18_The Great Prostitute
2008 Mar 06 04:33 Filed in: Bible
Studies
This week we consider chapter 17 and the identity of
the Great Prostitute - Babylon. Ever since the
rebellion and fall of Adam and the entrance of sin into
the world, there has been a "spirit" of idolatry and
addiction that has been moving to deceive and entice
humanity away from the worship of the One True God.
This Great Prostitute is the world spirit of Babylon.
Incarnated first in the plains of Shinar at the Tower
of Babel, then growing into the empire of Babylon this
world dominating spirit of empire is one which always
stands opposed to the Kingdom of God. In John's day,
the spirit of Babylon was incarnated in the Roman
Empire and its Imperial Cult. In the final days,
Babylon will be the adulterous and idolatrous world
religion that Antichrist uses to seduce and deceive the
whole world to worship him as god.

the final cataclysmic judgments that lead to and
culminate in the return of Christ. At last the prayers
of the saints and martyrs are answered as God
righteously gives the Beast and his followers exactly

Revelation_07_The Letters to Philadelphia and Laodicea
2007 Oct 24 11:38 Filed in: Bible
Studies
This week we look at the last two letters to
Philadelphia and Laodicea. Jesus praises the persecuted
Philadelphian church for their steadfastness but
rebukes the Laodiceans for their self-suffciency that
has lead to ther uselessness. These letters are
particularly sobering for our times when there are many
of us who desire success more than significance.

Jesus address a church that is so proud of its past
accomplishments that it is not living in the present?

Revelation_05_Letters to Smyrna and Pergamum

This week we hear the letters to Smyrna and Pergamum.
Just how far does Jesus expect us to follow Him? What
does Jesus despise? Jesus knows the predicament of His
people because He has suffered for them and is
suffering with them. As He speaks a word of
encouragment to those who persevere in faith, He also
speaks a word of rebuke for those who compromise the
faith.

Revelation_04_The Letter to Ephesus

We begin our tour of the Seven Letters to the Seven
Churches by discussing their form and methods of
interpretation. These letters must first be understood
in their cultural context then we can move to ask the
question, "How are these letters relevant to us now?"
The first letter to the church at Ephesus is just as
powerful today as the Lord of the Church calls His
people to add to their good theology compassionate
love.

Revelation_01_Introduction
2007 Sep 11 09:21 Filed in: Bible
Studies
We begin our expositional study of Revelation by
placing the book in its historical and cultural
setting. The Seven Churches of Asia Minor were being
faced with persecution by the Roman Empire. Meanwhile,
John, exiled on the island of Patmos, receives messages
and visions from Jesus Christ that are meant to
challenge, rebuke and encourage these churches. As
these early believers are faced with the oppression of
the empire, they are also reminded of the reality that
their Savior is also the Lord and God of all creation
and everything will be set right by Him.
