Summer Study: The Heart of the Matter

This year our Summer Study will focus on the Heart. At the core of all human activity lies the heart. At the core of every thought, desire and emotion lies the heart. Obviously, we are not talking about the physical organ that pumps blood through our bodies; we are talking about the spiritual organ from which our life flows. Proverbs tells us, “Above all else guard your heart, for from it flow the springs of life” (4:23).

In this 6 week study, we are going to consider the centrality of the heart in terms of what God is seeking to do within us as well as what He is doing in our world. At the core of all this work is the renovation, the transformation of the heart. He removes our hearts of stone and gives us hearts of flesh. He takes our darkened hearts and illuminates them with the glory—the beauty and uniqueness—of Christ. He takes our broken and wounded hearts and binds them up, healing them. He takes our rebellious hearts and gives us peace. He takes our sick and deceitful hearts and gives us new hearts, shaped to be filled with grace and truth.

Over the past several months, many have asked me, “How can we make a difference, how can we make an impact in our world?” I am convinced that it starts with understanding who our Great God is and how He is working within us in Christ through the power of his Holy Spirit. I am very excited about this study because I am convinced that once we see what God is doing in us, we will better understand the mission to which He is calling us. I hope you will come and join us for this fascinating study.
